“Everyday may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” – Alice Morse Earle
[American writer, antiquarian and 19th century joy-spreader]
The other day, a member of our Good Day team was in the drive-thru lane at a local coffee shop and shared this story.
You know how it is. Long lines. Short on time. The person two cars up clearly ordered 10 “venti, sugar-free, non-fat, vanilla soy, double shot, decaf, no foam, extra hot, Peppermint White Chocolate Mochas with light whip and extra syrup.”
Sigh. Can my day get any worse? (She’s a bit of a drama queen.)
I pull up to the window to retrieve my 20 oz. fresh brew and the young clerk greets me with the glorious words “No charge. Someone already ‘paid it forward’.”
Shocked, and humbled by the generosity (and more than a little embarrassed about by previous attitude), I tip the barista with my drip-of-the-day coffee money and a grateful smile.
Something so simple turned my potentially horrible-no-good-day completely around. The ‘marathon coffee-ordering queen’ in the red minivan’s simple act of kindness completely shifted my attitude and perspective.
It’s kind of surprising how such a relatively small gesture can have a “bigger than $2.95 impact” on someone’s day isn’t it?
That’s the sort of ripple effect we’re envisioning at Good Day, except it doesn’t require anyone to dig in their pockets for spare change. Our pay-it-forward vision is all about spreading joy.
Within each of us burns a flame that can ignite that positive, optimistic, contagious energy in others and we’re challenging you to let that flame grow and to share it. It doesn’t take a lot of money or skill, either. It’s in reach for all of us.
Smile. Say something kind. Be positive and sincere. Give others a boost.
Be the kind of person that inspires others to wake up happy and excited to make it a great day.
What can you do that lifts someone up today? Who brought something good into your day today? Tell us your story here.
Keep the Good Day energy going! Help make it a good day for someone else!
Spread the joy!
